Sequoyah Jr Chiefs Baseball Club names their first Director of Professional Instruction

Earlier today the Board of Directors for the SJCBC came to contract terms with Shawn Cheek of Talkin' Baseball to become the Director of Instruction for the Club.  After a targeted search for several months in an attempt to find someone who not only has baseball experience, a willingness to teach but also aligns with the core values of SJCBC.  When we spoke to Michael Costoulas and Clint Curl regarding this announcement they both stated, "There could not have been a more qualified, passionate person that also values character, sportsmanship and leadership that we could have found and he resides right her in our community."  Clint went on to say, "We have been looking for the right fit for our organization for some time but finding the right fit for the "glass slipper" has been difficult."  We also spoke with Shawn and he had this to say about the new partnership, "I am excited and honored to contribute to the community in which I live.  Baseball has taught me many values, and my goal is to help lead the program to the highest standard in skill and in character.  I look forward to investing into helping our program win on and off the field.

Shawn was signed as a free agent catcher out of Georgia Southwestern University by the Texas Rangers and played seven years of professional baseball at different levels of classification. He made it to AA with the Rangers and was eventually traded to the Boston Red Sox.  Shawn was awarded the Big South League MVP where he led the league in hitting in several categories and also won the South Atlantic League championship with the minor league Red Sox affiliate, Augusta Green Jackets.

After his playing career, Shawn managed professionally and coached at different levels. He currently lives in the Hickory Flat area with his wife and three children. Shawn is the founder of Talkin' Baseball to enable him to share his passion and expertise on every aspect of the game, including private baseball instruction, team lessons, and coaching clinics for all ages.  Additionally, Shawn works with Real Momentum ministries with the mission of helping Men win. Shawn is an effective speaker encouraging and challenging listeners from all walks of life with his story of perseverance and faith.

After two years of major capital improvements to the campus that includes a state of the art 4,000 square foot training facility amongst other improvements, the Jr. Chiefs knew this was the next step.  When asked what the plans are for the campus this year, Michael Costoulas stated, "Our Board sat down two years ago and developed a five year strategic plan for our Club that included more than just buildings and Shawn was a large piece of that plan.  We have great things coming on the horizon but right now on behalf of the SJCBC, it's families and the Board of Directors, I want to welcome Shawn and his family to our family, the Jr Chiefs."
