Sequoyah Jr Chiefs Name Their 13U Head Coach

The Sequoyah Jr Chiefs have come to terms with a local resident for their 13 year old team for the 2017/2018 Season.  Dave Smith, a Hickory Flat resident, has been involved with youth sports for over 25 years, whether it was coaching football, girls softball, basketball or his passion baseball.  Dave has helped coach and instruct players within our organization for the last several years and felt it was time to step back in and coach a team again.  After speaking with Dave he had this to say about the partnership, “I am all in and cannot wait to get started, mentoring young boys and teaching them the great game of baseball has always been a passion of mine” Dave coached his son DJ through youth baseball and was a member of the Georgia Mustangs Baseball coaching staff that won the 2004 Georgia USSSA Majors State 12U Championship and CABA 12U State Championship.  DJ went on to play baseball for the University of Georgia on scholarship.  Coach Dave’s focus is fundamentally driven, developing each player’s individual skills set with positive reinforcement and pushing each player to achieve their maximum potential not only in athletics but in academics.

Dave has lived in the Hickory Flat community for over 30 years and both of his children, Ali and DJ are alumni of Sequoyah High School and both received academic scholarships.

This is the second big coaching acquisition in the last few weeks for the program as Shawn Cheek was named the Club’s Director of Instruction.
